Approximately an hour and a half before
sunrise, a whiteness appears from earth towards edge of the Eastern sky. It
rises vertically like a column and is known as “False dawn” (Subh-e-Kazib).
This whiteness disappears after a short while and a different kind of whiteness
emerges from Eastern direction, spreading left and right, covering the entire
edge of the Eastern sky. It does not move up vertically. This is known as “True
dawn” (Subj-e-Sadiq). Time for morning prayer starts with the emergence of
“True dawn” and lasts till the sun rise, even if a small edge of the sun
appears, the time for morning prayer is over.
The best time to say the morning prayer
is when the light of dawn spreads and there is ample time to offer the prayer
with ease according to Sunnah. Also before the sun rises there should be enough
time to repeat the prayer according to the Sunnah, for any possible defect.
